Cóż to za motorowerek z chromowaną kierownicą tam w głębi podwórza? to oparta na autentycznych wydarzeniach opowiastka z lat sześćdziesiątych.

Jest to druga z wydanych powieści Pereca, krótko po Rzeczach. O ile Rzeczy były napisane w klasycznym stylu Flauberta, Motorowerek utrzymany jest w konwencji zdecydowanie humorystycznej, w której dostrzec można wpływy prozy Raymonda Queneau. Powieść ta, podobnie jak wydane niedawno Zniknięcia, ukazuje się w polskim przekładzie po raz pierwszy od publikacji oryginału w roku 1966.

Opis

 Podczas gdy trwa wojna w Algierii, grupa lewicujących paryżan próbuje wypracować reguły, którymi powinna kierować się współczesna sztuka. Jeden z nich, Henio Pollak, jest poborowym w Vincennes i posiada motorowerek z chromowaną kierownicą. Któregoś dnia przychodzi doń kolega o skomplikowanym nazwisku zaczynającym się od „Kara” – „Karacośtam” – i prosi, by go przejechać, co pozwoliłoby mu uniknąć wyjazdu na front do Algerii. Ponieważ wesoła banda intelektualistów ma więcej zdolności do wymyślania sposobów na ulepszanie świata (czemu towarzyszą suto zakrapiane kolacyjki) niż do rozwiązywania praktycznych problemów, sprawy przybierają nieoczekiwany obrót…
