Powieść graficzna MIASTO składa się ze 100 drzeworytów o wymiarach 13 cm x 8 cm. Po raz pierwszy została opublikowana w 1925 roku przez Alberta Morencé w Paryżu pod francuskim tytułem La Ville: cent bois gravés. W Niemczech Kurt Wolff opublikował wydanie zatytułowane Die Stadt. Dzięki Wydawnictwu LOKATOR powieść graficzna MIASTO zostanie po raz pierwszy wydrukowana w 2025 r. Krytyk Perry Willett uważał, że Miasto „należy uznać za arcydzieło drzeworytniczej powieści Masereela” i uważał, że wyprzedzało filmy Berlin: Symfonia metropolii (1927) i Człowiek z kamerą (1929), w których głównym bohaterem był samo miasto. Masereel przez całe życie publikował powieści bez słów, od L’Oeuvre w 1928 r. Po Route des hommes w 1964 r.
