Pierwszy projekt fotograficzny Piotra Kalińskiego Cisza był próbą odrzucenia tej niewygodnej ramy poprzez zneutralizowanie wyciszenie znaczeń, które koncentrują się wokół postaci, przedmiotów i charakterystycznych miejsc. Gdyby na dwóch krańcach jakiejś semantycznej podziałki umieścić Augusta Stranda i Daniela Boudineta, Kaliński poruszałby się w kierunku tego drugiego tracąc po drodze ludzi, ostrość przedstawionych rzeczy, gubiąc stałe punkty odniesienia. Kolejny projekt Places może się wydawać krokiem w tył – czymś w rodzaju ostatniego spojrzenia rzuconego w stronę konkretnego miejsca, w stronę nie do końca opustoszałej przestrzeni. Ale w rzeczywistości jest próbą uchwycenia przełomowego momentu, momentu, w którym co prawda nie pojawiają się jeszcze wyraziste znaczenia, ale dysponujemy już ich konturami. Zdjęcia Piotra Kalińskiego są przewrotną grą z widzem, który może wypełnić kontury intensywnymi barwami, albo też pozostawić wszystko w niedookreśleniu.

Piotr Kaliński’s first photographic project, entitled Silence, was an attempt to reject this inconvenient frame by a neutralization and muting of the meanings which focus around the people, objects and characteristic places. If we were to put August Strand and Daniel Boudinet on two ends of some semantic scale, Kaliński would move towards the latter, letting go of the people and clarity of the presented objects, and losing the constant points of reference on the way. Another project, Places, may seem to be a step back, something like the last glance thrown at the particular spot – towards the not entirely deserted space. It is, however, in fact, an attempt at grasping the critical moment, in which we cannot indeed find any clarified meanings yet, but we can get hold of their outlines. Piotr Kaliński’s photographs are a perverse game with the spectator, who may fill the contours with intensive colours, or leave it all in its „indefinition”.
